Don't Worry, You Don't Need Poultry Seasoning!

Right about now, many of us are pouring over recipes for Thanksgiving dinner. One ingredient you will often find in those recipes is Poultry Seasoning. This is possibly the only time of year you will ever use it. Please don't go out and buy some just for tomorrow. The best seasoning is fresh.. and what better than to mix up your own with fresh herbs or fresh dried herbs you already have in your kitchen! Save yourself time and money and mix up your own. Now, this doesn't have to be exact, but here is a general rule for substitution. Whenever a recipe calls for poultry seasoning, use a mixture of what you have of the following adding up to the measurement needed.
  • Rosemary
  • Sage
  • Marjoram
  • Parsley
  • Thyme
Other possibilities are oregano, as well as onion powder, salt and pepper. If you feel ambitious, make up a mix that fills a spice jar and use it for a few months on poultry dishes. Then adjust your mixture until you have the "perfect" poultry seasoning for you and your family!

Happy herbing!
